Club stability: from Napoli to Hapoel Acre
The 205th Weekly Post of the CIES Football Observatory presents the 50 clubs from 31 European top divisions having fielded players signed during the current year for the lowest and highest percentage of minutes in domestic league matches played since the 1st of July. At the top of the tables are SSC Napoli and Hapoel Acre.
At the Israeli side, footballers recruited after January 1st 2017 played 95.1% of total domestic league minutes in the current season. The highest percentage at big-5 league level was recorded for another promoted team: Benevento. The lack of cohesion certainly explains the very poor results achieved so far. The same holds true for the majority of teams in which new signings were fielded for the highest percentage of minutes.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, clubs where new footballers had the lowest percentage of playing time tend to be in the first half of the table in their respective league. Among teams in the top 10, the only exceptions so far are Athletic Club and Sassuolo. A full dataset on the average stay of players in the first team squad of their employer club is available in the CIES Football Observatory Digital Atlas.
